Oil leakage from a turbocharger on the 1.6 T-GDI engine happens rare, but if it does, it is at very low mileage. In general, the engine does not deliver serious problems with provided proper maintenance and use of good fuel/lubricants. The engine life is slightly over 125-150k miles (200,000-250,000 km).
Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020) TDI Reliability Euro5 vs Euro6. Looking for advice before pulling the triger. I am in the process of buying a used Octavia mkiii TDi (1.6 or 2.0 not yet decided) for commuting 33k km/yr (all of them on highway). The Octavia models that fit my budget will be either euro5 (2014-2015) models or early Euro6 (2016
In 2020, both the 1.6 and twin-turbo 2.0-litre were dropped, with a less powerful 120bhp 2.0-litre TDI replacing the smaller engine. On the road, the 1.6 TDI diesel is an adequate performer, but
With both a supercharger and turbocharger, with pistons made out of chewing gum, there’s no way you’ll enjoy this engine. 1.6 MPI of 102 bhp – The good old 1.6 MPI sings it’s final hurrah under the bonnet of the VW Golf MK VI. Launched all the way back to the Mk III Golf, this engine is just about the most reliable unit on the Mk VI Golf.
Yes I believe so. 93g/km of Co2 for the 1.5 which isn't bad for a diesel. Also, it's better at reducing the NOx particulates. Generally a less pollutant engine, more refined than the 1.6, Euro-6c compliant, and what reads to be quite a lot of new technology derived from their 908 HDi Le Mans engine apparently.
Re petrol vs diesel, personally, i would not go for a diesel due to the potential problems unless my usage (i.e very high miles, towing etc) dictated it. The mpg figures you mention for the petrol 1 series, seems poor. 1 or 2 forum members have, or have had cars with the 1.4TSI VAG engine, which seems to easily manage 50mpg.
LOL. TDI's don't even need the glow plugs till -6c (20f) or lower. I started mine today at -4c with no glow plugs and a tired battery. 430k and not only that but it is a M-TDI with no cold start advance. The electronic engines start even better then that. For the old style 1.5 and 1.6, it is good you are looking at them in the winter.
Diesel engine options - 1.6-litre (105bhp); 2.0-litre (140bhp, 170bhp). Transmission options: six-speed manual gearbox, six and seven-speed DSG depending on engine choice. All-wheel drive is an option on selected variants.
Our test car was the Jetta 1.6 Tdi fitted with the top trim level, the Highline model, and is priced at €27,830. The engine produces 77kW and 175Nm . With a vast array of engines and trims to choose from, Jetta owners are spoiled for choice. There are two petrol engines a 1.2 and 1.4 both with an output of 77kW and both falling into Band B
